Operating System Not Found- Gateway M460

Postby edgeman2k9 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 7:17 pm

Hello, all; I am in dire need of assistance on my issue...

Upon booting my laptop (a Gateway M460 laptop) to Windows XP, it starts out regularly, but then goes to a black screen with the following listed on the last three lines of the text on the screen:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.
Operating System not found

I've looked into the BIOS (PhoenixBIOS Version 60.05) and was not sure if there was a problem there. I also tried recovery by using a Windows XP disk, but the disk failed to start recovery. Is it possible to diagnose the problem and resolve it from this information? Thanks so much for helping out...

the media test failure alerts you to a problem with the hard drive. Either it can't read it, or find it.
Can't tell if the drive is not readable, or it just can't read the start up program on the drive but usually
it does that when it can't even find the drive. I would check hard drive pins on the drive and the unit, and check
any internal cables
