Based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked the musical is currently Broadway’s number one musical, defeating box office records and has one over 50 major awards for it’s electrifying energy. Since the first show in 2003, Wicked the musical has been nothing but a success. So what makes the untold story of the witches of Oz so popular, and why are wicked tickets so high in demand?
1. The Intrigue: Don’t You Want to Know Both Sides of the story?
Wicked the musical has become one of the most well known Broadway shows of the decade. I’d say that this is because of it’s intrigue. I mean, don’t we all want to know the villain’s side of the story? I sure do! We all know about the Yellow Brick Road, and the people who it guided towards the Wizard of Oz, being delayed multiple times by the oh-so-evil Wicked Witch of the West. Knowing human nature and it’s curiosity, I don’t thing many people would deny the chance to be enlightened on the subject of the Witches of Oz, and how they became the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
2. The Experience: Seeing a Musical on Broadway
There are so many great venues where Wicked the musical plays, but one in particular which always comes to mind when Wicked is mentioned, is Broadway. Anyone who I’ve talked to that has seen Wicked on Broadway absolutely loved the experience. Who wouldn’t, right? They talked non-stop about the lights, the sounds, the music and the overall amazing experience that they’d gained. And plus, have you ever even really experienced New York City if you haven’t seen a Broadway musical?
3. It’s Not Just a Musical
So, Wicked the musical isn’t just your average Broadway show. This Broadway play and concert combines theatrics with dancing, singing, technology and comedy to bring you the amazing show that is Wicked the musical. It doesn’t get much better than that.
4. The Music
On numerous accounts, and from numerous sources, I have been told that Wicked the Musical has some of the most amazing musical components. So basically, the songs are great. Wicked the musical’s songs have arguably become extremely well known. Song like ‘Defying Gravity’, ‘What is This Feeling’. Kudos to Stephen Schwartz, the extremely talented composer who nursed the Wicked’s soundtrack to life.
5. You’ll Have a Great Conversation Starter, and a Great Excuse to Talk About Your Trip
Say you saw Wicked the musical during a trip to New York, and once you get home, you’re totally missing Broadway. What better way to relive your experience than to tell all your friends and family about the show? I can’t imagine having a better excuse to talk about your trip. For those of you who live in the Big Apple, seeing Wicked the musical has the potential to be an awesome conversation starter. No conversation of yours will ever again be awkward.
Whether it’s out of curiosity, wanting to get a better taste of New York, your love of music, or because you just can’t wait to tell as many people as you can about the show, seeing Wicked the musical is something you won’t regret, and now, you know why.
